Meta's message as he left got me thinking...TNZ really isn't the same anymore. I mean, I didn't really care at first, but now that I look at it...its really dissapointing this place isn't doing better. I mean, don't get me wrong, we've got consistent activity that I don't have to babysit to keep up for the first time ever since we were hacked almost 4 years ago, which makes me happy, but look at what that activity is. 20-30 posts a day. A lot of spam. Not to many new topics. I mean, look at some of our typical posts nowadays (I don't mean to single anyone out with these, they are just examples):
...yeah. I mean, I've always said I'd like TNZ's rules to be a little more relaxed than most forums, but this is getting way out of hand. TNZ doesn't really even feel like a forum anymore, just a barely free-for-all place. Bottom line? This needs to change. I'm not saying you guys can't have fun and act crazy anymore. Just try to keep from making pointless posts, and if you do, post them on the spam board (which ironically, never gets used anymore). I want TNZ to be as fun and awesome as it used to be...back in the day...4 years ago. Yoshi knows what I am talking about. Lavos knows what I'm talking about. Flames knows what I'm talking about. Meta knew what I'm talking about, too bad he's gone now. Even after the hack, when we had people like Kevin and Koehler join us, TNZ was still really fun. Not to mention each summer until this last one, when awesome people like Troy, xan, and Ultra used to be making real posts and having a good time. If you can't tell, I really want TNZ to be like it used to be, and I'm asking you all to lend me a hand in accomplishing this. What do you propose we do, besides the things that I talked about? |

I'll be honest: I'm perfectly content with TNZ's state right now. I enjoy it being a hangout place for the few of us. But I'm not in charge, you are, so I'll comply to what you want. I'll put in my effort. Our first objective, I think, should be to recruit more members. More members means more discussion. More discussion means more fun. It could also mean more out-of-handness, but then mods like me and you would be able to actually put our abilities to use. In short, recruiting new members will virtually turn us from a "wasteland" to a full-fledged forum. Or, like I said in the other thread, giving specific members specific duties could work too. It's your call. |

I'm not content though, because I have put my heart and soul into this place for almost 5 years now, and this is not what I wanted it to turn out to be. Meta leaving made me realize this. And yes, we do need to recruit new members. And not just friends of existing members, thus adding to the big "clique" that TNZ has become, but getting TNZ out there to the general public. I think we should give specific members duties. And not just staff, but every member on the forum. We need everyone's help to fix this. Who's with me? |

I understand your discontent. Even if I didn't, I'd be down with it because it is your forum after all. Again, I'll head by NS2 or something and get random peeps to join. I'm sure SOMEBODY would join us, and then their friends, and their friends' friends, and before you know it we have a chain...and we'll all work together. |

Yeah honestly, when I first joined this forum kind of weirded me out with how "clique-esque" it was...I probably wouldn't have stayed if I wasn't friends with D and Llama. I would love to help turn this place back to an actual forum. Give me work, and I'll do it. |

I like the tiny community we have. When you're on a large website, you don't get that homey feeling from it. With this place, I kinda feel like I know the members already, you know what I mean? We can get more members, but it'd be nice to keep it like this to an extent. I do think that we could end up being more seriously and maybe have a better focus on gaming... but a little conversation on the side isn't all that bad. Personally, I go on only a few forums, and I don't really take the internet all that seriously (except for a few things *cough*), so don't mind my random posts and junk. Yeah, I agree. I mean, I want this place to expand a little, but all the same, l'd like it to keep its homey feeling. But the thing is, back in the day, we had that nice, tight community, but at the same time this place was an actual forum. THAT is what I want TNZ to return to. EDIT: I'd like to make a note that today (thanks to this discussion obviously), we've had more daily posts than ever since June 28. Edited by DSFAN121, Nov 1 2009, 10:04 PM.

Considering this is the only forum i go to... since Nsider (the original) I want to see this place get back to where it was when i got here (but you know with more people). I remember in summers past when we got things going, there was no spam, and no need for D to patrol, but we slowly regressed into what we are today. I contribute a major part of it to the lack of good nintendo games. I think one of the things we should think of is making the "Other Gaming" board more organized. But also untill we get more active, i think that an easier way to get to the second or third topic on a board would be nice. What we really need to do is what D said, we can still have all of the funny conversations we are having now, just keep it to the part of the forum for that, and we should also get more actual gaming discussion going. The fact that we are all consernd about this shows how strong the community here is, and I believe that if we do get a little bigger, that we can still hopfully retain the tight community. I think the only way that we would loose the community that we have here, is if we leave. Talking more about what the forum is for/ changing the forums genre (to a more neutral position, not nessesarily in name but in structure), is all we need for those new members that keep on trickling in to actually stay. With that said I am in, the only thing i have as a request D, is that you include us in on changes, and ideas. |

Which I will definitely do. Like I said, this is a team effort, with everyone on the forum needing to pitch in. I like how everyone wants to help. That's one of the few good things about the new TNZ...everyone is dedicated and willing to help. That + old TNZ = perfect forum.
