I don't think I like videogames anymore.

I don't know, I just can't keep interest with any game anymore. Like, I just got Okami on the Wii. I loved it to death and I couldn't stop playing it for about 2 days, but I haven't touched it since. I got Fire Emblem DS, kept it for 5 days, started to hate it, then sold it. Then I played Street Fighter IV. I got SO HYPED for that game then when I actually played it I just got bored.

Although I did pick up Elite Beat Agents and I'm loving every second of it now. Also, I can play older games just fine; I'm doing a run of Pokemon Red now and I just got done playing Terranigma.

Anyone know what's wrong? Are videogames just shit now or am I having an extreme case of the nostalgia?

Yes, part of it is probably nostalgia. And part of it is probably because Ninty's latest games are shit. I mean, look at the TNZ Awards nominations. It's been so hard to choose nominees, because there weren't many good games. I think it's time we widened our horizons beyond Nintendo (if we haven't already) and move on to the 360, and maybe the PS3.

Don't worry meta i am having the same thing, ninty hasn't come out with a good game since MKWii and that was like... (checks wiki...) holy shit april of 08 thats almost been a year, and since i dont play that game really at all, Brawl is really the last ninty game that i bought that i play and its one year aniversery is on Tuesday.

And its pretty much the same for the DS. This is why last November i went out and got myself a 360, because they have some good games out there to play, not to mention a far superior online experience.

In 08 nintendo had probably the worst year EVER for game releases, there was pretty much nothing to look forward to after Brawl and MK, and there really isnt much official thats coming soon either (except the conduit, which is a third party FPS that looks promising and if fails, i will most likely loose all hope for nintendo's consoles).

In resent days, i find myself playing NHL09, Left 4 Dead, and GTA4:TLAD... as well as some of my older DS games, and A link to the past for GBA. I amd just hoping that nintendo will release some good games somtime this year, because there are a few games out there for their franchises that they haven't released/ruined yet (STARFOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Personally what nintendo does in this coming year will decide everything, I am hoping that the DSi does well, and that nintendo starts putting out some more good games for Wi, because if not i think that they may finally get their wish, being not in the console wars at all, and HATED BY ALL FORMER FANS!!!!!!!

Is the DSTT the flash card thingy? Or something totally totally different?

...in any sense, I can totally relate to you, Meta. I'm going through almost the same kinda phase. I haven't touched a video game in nearly a week now, partly because of the shitload of homework I've been getting lately, partly because girls are now in the picture (I know, totally moot point lol), and partly because, as aforementioned, the Ninty lineup has been really really weak. To keep this related to gaming, I'll stick to the latter point.

Actually, xan hit it nearly on the head. Since MKWii (thank GOD that game is so fepic, in my opinion), Ninty hasn't really released that many great games...Kirby Superstar Ultra, Wario Land Shake It...that's about the extent of last April till now. Not that either of those games were bad (actually, they were awesome in their own rights), but Ninty has to step it up. AND PART OF THAT INCLUDES ANNOUNCING A NORTH AMERICAN RELEASE DATE FOR MARIO AND LUIGI 3 (I will throw that in WHEREVER I can).

I'll probably wind up getting the next gen Ninty consoles, for the sake of the classic franchises which never fail (see Mario Galaxy, for one)...and I probably won't get a next gen Microsoft or Sony, for the fact that almost none of the games on those systems interest me. But I can definitely see myself cutting back a lot of game playing, and maybe even cutting out game playing period, in the future.

Baby, wait, I didn't mean to say "nightmare"!

There was a point (for the sake of this post, let's say SNES days) where you could walk into a store, randomly pick out a game, and it'd probably be worthwhile. If you randomly picked out a first-party Nintendo/Sega game, chances are near 100% that it's excellent.

Obviously, especially with the "mainstreamization" of video games, this isn't true anymore. Therein lies the problem. Games just aren't very good anymore. As long as this keeps up, we'll probably end up turning to our existing collection of classics more often.

Also, getting an X360 probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. =P I don't have one myself, but plan to pick one up when it becomes convenient. While I don't think I could ever fully break off from Nintendo, the X360 is showing the most promise as a console at the moment.

edit: Forgot to mention that the indie scene is blooming greatly, as well. Flash games, especially, are starting to become quite worthwhile. You'll find they've come a long way, artistically, technically, and gameplay-wise.

lol just like i throw in the making of a star fox game when ever i can...

well even with that announcement thats still only the DS which imo is nintendo's better system. It has some lifestyle games, but still has more better games like MKDS (which i like better than MKWii snaling and all), New Super Mario Bros, Lost Magic, and more. The problem is the same thing with the Wii nothing out on the horizon

Is...this...real...? TROY, YOU'RE GROWING UP! :o

All tooling on Troy aside, I agree with what you guys have been saying. Especially Lavos's point on games now compared to those in the SNES era. Back then, I guess, Nintendo was focused on the quality of their games, because they were relatively new and still trying to rope people in with their games. Therefore, they made sure the gaming experience was as enjoyable as possible. As of late, however, and especially with the success of the Wii, they see this is no longer necessary. They've now established themselves as a major, successful company, and they know people will buy their games. So, they don't see a need to give it their all in the game development. So what if Brawl's online play is shitty and the final smashes are unbalanced? Who cares if they keep repeating the same Pokemon story over and over, complete with "new" Pokemon that are, in fact, clones of previous ones. It's no skin off their back.

Yes.

Also, I haven't really bought anything new lately, but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy playing games. Hell, I've been playing the same DDR for the past 8 or 9 years now... Just because it's not new doesn't mean that it's bad.

I know Ninty hasn't delivered lately, but... Ninty isn't the only gaming company out there.

If you want a neat Wii game that nobody here has played probably... grab deBlob. I had some fun with it....
